Brownleaf

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 192 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of flexible, straight stems covered in paper-thin, waxy, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are short stubs with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of huge, fan-like, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid lime with intense red dots, frail and fuzzy.

In mid-summer it produces hundreds of medium-sized, purple blossoms with pleated petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like ashes.

In late autumn 9 pointed fruits ripen. The leathery light brown skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is salty, and the crunchy brown flesh is bitter and salty and sticky. The brown seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.
