Mahogany

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 491 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a long and flexible, crooked trunk covered in rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with sparse amounts of leathery, large, teardrop-shaped leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of red that gradient shifts to lime at the top.

In late summer it forms small, cream, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It can survive a very long time without water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
