Bluefruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 15 feet (4.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is white with black speckles.

The numerous branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, sickle shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either sky blue, or deep blue with white zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, beige blossoms with 9 triangular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early winter it produces , long, narrow fruit. The rubbery red skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the soft deep blue flesh is sweet and very juicy. The intense orange seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
