Bluefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 67 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, curved trunk covered in fine, rough, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of miniature, broad, flat leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are deep blue on the sides and white at the center.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of large, brown blossoms with 9 triangular shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intense scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In early winter it produces , slender, 2 pointed fruit. The sticky pink skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy deep blue flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The washed-out yellow seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
