Copperleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 32 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many stocky, wonky stems covered in waxy, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, broad, flat, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid blood red with bronze zig-zags, resistant and covered in fine hairs.

In mid-spring it produces handfuls of medium-sized, deep red flowers with many layers of petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like vomit.


It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for making paper
