Burgundy Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in hard, silky, dark gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy.

The small handful of branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with handfuls of tiny, sickle shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of orange and washed-out green that gradient shifts to beige at the top.

In early spring, it produces several small, pink blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like paint.

In late autumn it produces small, oblong fruit. The clammy bronze skin is delicate and inedible, and the crunchy pale purple flesh is sweet and sour and syrupy. The cream seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
