Bloodspine Cactus
Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)This short cactus grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The perforated stem is gray-green, and is covered in many fine, blood red, hair-like spines.
It is quick growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with petals that are either azure or blue, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals in raised layers. It has an intense scent that smells like glue.
The cactus's skin is tough, the orange flesh is sticky, and the hazel sap is thin and can kill if consumed.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
