Coniapple Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 56 feet (17.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 78 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in hard, rough, black bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The tangled mess of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with small amounts of large, circular leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either pale orange or yellow, with blue patches.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, silver blossoms with pleated petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like fermented fruit.

In early summer it produces , triangular fruit. The waxy subtle red skin is thin and inedible, and the soft violet flesh is overwhelmingly savoury and sticky. The yellow seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
