Copperfruit

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 72 feet (21.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 70 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in cracked, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is gray.

The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, finger-like leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in violet and dull green varieties.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, amber blossoms with 8 crescent-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like coconut.

In early autumn it produces small, finger-like fruit. The smooth blue skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet and savoury, and the very soft white flesh is sweet and salty and very juicy. The blood red seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
