Copperfruit

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, crooked trunk covered in hard, rough, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very light wood is copper-coloured.

The thick clumps of branches are very long and slender and are covered with very large amounts of small, wispy leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are peach at the bottom and copper with cyan zig-zags at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, caramel blossoms with long, tapering petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like coconut.

In late autumn it produces , perforated fruit. The leathery slate skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft gentle purple flesh is sweet and dry. The crimson seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
