Crimson Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This small leaf succulent grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The wide stem is yellow-green, and is covered in brittle dark yellow spines. The stocky leaves are hazel at the bottom and pastel red with crimson lines at the top. Small amounts of them grow on very thick, moss green branches that trail down towards the ground. The leaves are rigid, and detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 24 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are generally red; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour, grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 10 petals. It has no scent.

The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the purple flesh is smooth, and the peach sap is thin.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
