Azure Spikefern

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is brown, and is covered in hundreds of rigid azure spines. It has a straight, bulbous, deep yellow trunk atop a stumpy stilted platform of knobbly, exposed roots. The branches are thick and lime green and are short stubs.

The toothed-edged, thick leaves are either light blue, or turquoise with silver splotches. They are delicate, and easily come away when pulled.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with petals that are black in the center, amber in the middle and silver at the edges grows at the top, reappearing after 2 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 6 petals in raised layers. It has an intense scent that smells like cotton.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the sky blue flesh is rough, and the magenta sap is thin.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
every part of the fruit tree is very toxic.
It can flourish even in standing water.
