Spineleaf Cactoid

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This big caudiciform grows up to 75 feet (22.9 meters) tall. The sickle shaped stem is red, and is covered in thick bunches of fine, deep green, hair-like spines. It has a slanted, flat, olive trunk atop a slender web of knobbly, exposed roots. The branches are very thick and brown and are short and thin.

The wavy-edged, very narrow and elongated leaves are brilliant purple and cream. They are flimsy, but do not detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 8 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with petals that are either magenta or hazel, with a yellow center, grow at the top, reappearing after 6 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a sphere with 41 widely spaced, narrow petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like a damp log.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the beige flesh is rough, and the caramel sap is thin and has hallucinogenic properties.
