Copper Moss

This copper moss is commonly found blanketing small areas On rotten logs.
It is average-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in small clumps and can overwhelm an area rapidly, and is very delicate.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release thousands of spores.
