Clinging Trumpetvine
Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This big flower grows up to 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) tall. Its light grey stem is wispy, and the huge, slate and emerald leaves are sickle shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Each stem splits 5 to 9 times; a single small flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 56 cm (22.0 inches) wide, with solid beige petals decorated with violet dots and a subtle purple central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 12 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are sturdy.
It has a delicate scent that smells like mango, and it has excessive amounts of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
The leaves and petals are often used to make tea.
