Crimson Spine Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This short leaf succulent grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall. The wide stem is green, and is dotted with small red spines. The rounded leaves are found in vivid red and crimson varieties. Copious amounts of them grow on thick, moss green branches that trail down across the ground. The leaves are flimsy, but detach easily.

It is steady-growing, taking 8 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of olive grows at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals in raised layers. It has a fairly strong scent that smells like a man.

The leaf succulent's skin is very thick, the pink flesh is waxy, and the brown sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It actively smothers and kills off other plants.
