Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 65 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, crooked trunk covered in very thick, rough, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is brown.

The excessive amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of giant, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of silver that gradient shifts to blue at the top.

In early spring, it produces many giant, magenta blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like something putrid.

In late summer it produces large, fan-like fruit. The hairy amber skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and spicy and oily. The bold red seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is very resistant to fire damage.
It is suitable for making paper
