Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, crooked trunk covered in knobbly, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is black with white speckles.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of giant, asymmetrical leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid green with turquoise lines.

In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, copper blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like rotten meat.

In early summer it produces tiny, broad, flat fruit. The leathery crimson skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy bronze flesh is sweet and syrupy. The gold seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
