Black Trumpetvine

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 36 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, straight stems covered in hard, rough, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short, thin and wispy that and are covered with handfuls of small, wispy, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in light brown, orange and light brown varieties, strong and flexible and clammy.

In early spring it produces a thick sheet of large, black flowers with stiff, pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like rotten meat.
