Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in fine, silky, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.

The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of large, wispy leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to olive at the top.

In early spring, it produces thousands of tiny, amber blossoms with 4 shield-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like wet dog.

In late summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The clammy grey skin is thick and inedible, and the very soft olive flesh is savoury and sticky. The silver seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

The pollen is extremely toxic to people but not to certain animals.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
