Crimson Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This short leaf succulent grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall. The narrow stem is moss green, and is covered in many rigid red spines. The wavy-edged, spear shaped leaves are found in lilac, silver and purple varieties. Large amounts of them grow from the base in tight-packed layers. The leaves are hardy, but take some effort to detach.

It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with alternating petals of indigo and crimson, with a turquoise central disk grow at the top, reappearing once every 3 years. The flower head is largely flat with 36 widely spaced round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like roses.

The leaf succulent's skin is thin, the yellow flesh is leathery, and the black sap is thin.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
The grains are bitter, but very healthy and can be used to make numerous baked goods.
