Crimson Succulent

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The tapering stem is red, and is covered in brittle silver spines. The curved, subtle yellow trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the top. Its gray-green branches are very short, thin and wispy and start growing three quarters of the way up the stem.

The large amounts of ripped-edged, thin leaves are found in blood red, beige and brilliant orange varieties. They are sturdy, but are very difficult to pull away.

It is steady-growing, taking 3 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of grey and light grey, with a lime central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 6 years. The flower head is largely flat with handfuls of widely spaced narrow petals. It has a strong scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the crimson flesh is smooth, and the turquoise sap is thin.
