Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in cracked, burgundy bark, and inside, the hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, very thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and yellow.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of tiny, bold red blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like musk.

In early autumn it produces tiny, circular fruit. The smooth green skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is sweet and oily. The muted green seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is said to be the favourite flower of a legendary person.
