Bloodfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 36 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thin, wrinkled, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is dark brown.

The numerous branches are very short and thick and are covered with very large amounts of giant, triangular leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are orange on the sides and turquoise at the center.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, intense red blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like blood.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The clammy intense orange skin is stretchy and sweet, and the soft orange flesh is sweet and syrupy. The green seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
