Burgundy Moss

This burgundy moss is commonly found growing in small clumps On trees, In heathlands, and In rainforests.
It is small, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches, and is overwhelmingly frail; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early winter to release millions of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.
