Amberbell

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The very thin stem is orange or amber, and is dotted with small subtle red spines. The stocky, light brown trunk can grow to as much as 4 feet (1.2 meters) in diameter. Its green branches are long and slender.

The irregular-edged, wispy leaves are beige on the sides and green at the center. They are resistant, but take some effort to detach.

It is quick growing, taking 7 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of light brown, grow at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is made up of 8 petals in raised layers. It has an intensely strong scent that smells like onion.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the copper flesh is smooth, and the light grey sap is thin.
