Cliffvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 47 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many sturdy, wavy stems covered in very thick, waxy, dark green bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, long, tapering, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are crimson and deep green, resistant and clammy.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of small, faded red blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like garlic.

In midwinter long, straight fruits ripen. The leathery lilac skin is delicate and extremely sour, and the soft dark grey flesh is salty and very dry. The beige seeds are tiny and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
