Blackheart Flower

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its yellow-green stem is thick and straight, and the huge, moss green leaves are asymmetrical with toothed edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Around 50 large flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 2 cm (0.8 inches) wide, with petals that are black in the center, brown in the middle and cream at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of 7 widely spaced, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like cheese, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.
