Mahogany

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in knobbly, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The small clumps of branches are long and thick and are covered with small bunches of large, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are generally white.

In early spring, it produces several small, aquamarine blossoms with sickle shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like meat.

In early autumn it produces , broad, flat fruit. The hairy brilliant purple skin is tough and edible when cooked; it is bitter and sour, and the very soft red flesh is salty and dry. The olive seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It can flourish even in standing water.
