Burgundy Succulent

This average-sized cactus grows up to 47 feet (14.3 meters) tall. The stiff, pointed stem is burgundy, and is covered in copious amounts of flexible olive spines.

It is very slow growing, taking 23 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are magenta at the sides and bronze at the center grow at the top, reappearing after 3 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 19 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight heart. It has a delicate scent that smells like sugar.

The cactus's skin is tough, the bright purple flesh is sticky, and the green sap is thin.
