Violet Bloom

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive flower grows up to 7.6 feet (2.3 meters) tall. Its caramel stems grow in bunches of 7 and are very thin and straight, and the miniature, red leaves are long, tapering with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

1 to 4 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 65 cm (25.6 inches) wide, with petals that are generally violet; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals in raised layers. They fall easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like lavender, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
The leaves have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
