Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in fine, cracked, brown-green bark, and inside, the very hard wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, very thick leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid washed-out red or cream, with gentle yellow edges.

In early spring, it produces several small, grey blossoms with oval-shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a faint scent that smells like new books.

In late summer it produces small, wide fruit. The smooth grey skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy dark grey flesh is sour and very dry. The light brown seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

The bark is frequently covered in moss.
It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
