Purple Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, dark gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is brown.

The small handful of branches are very short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of giant, circular leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are purple and white.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with finger-like petals. They are sturdy and have a powerful scent that smells like meat.

In mid-summer it produces small, triangular fruit. The waxy deep red skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy slate flesh is sour and syrupy. The vivid orange seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

The leaves are slightly toxic, and very salty.
