Copperberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, wavy trunk covered in rough, dark brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow.

The excessive amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of tiny, circular leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either copper or deep red, with orange edges.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, olive blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like a damp log.

In late autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The fuzzy lime skin is peel-able and inedible, and the slightly crunchy slate flesh is bitter and very juicy. The red seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
