This brown moss is commonly found growing in small clumps In moorlands.
It is large, growing up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. It forms in thick clumps, and is very robust.
When mature, emerald oval-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release dozens of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It has impressive regenerative properties.
