Indigo Fruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 37 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, wavy trunk covered in thin, silky, yellow bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short and slender and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thick leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are emerald with indigo tips.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of tiny, olive blossoms with perforated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like garlic.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, needle-like fruit. The fuzzy muted purple skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy slate flesh is sweet and dry. The red seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
