Caramel

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, angular trunk covered in silky, gray bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with handfuls of giant, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid caramel or olive, with subtle green patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, slate blossoms with 4 oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like garlic.

In mid-summer it produces , stiff, pointed fruit. The leathery sky blue skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy sky blue flesh is salty and sticky. The bold red seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
