This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 49 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, crooked trunk covered in hard, waxy, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown.

The numerous branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of huge, broad, flat leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are light brown on the sides and caramel at the center.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of medium-sized, cyan blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like skunk spray.

In early summer it produces , perforated fruit. The crispy orange skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is sweet and spicy, and the soft light brown flesh is sweet and salty and dry. The green seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
