Waterleaf Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with very large amounts of large, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in gold, peach and crimson varieties.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, bronze blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like leather.

In early summer it produces very large, finger-like fruit. The hairy azure skin is thin and sweet and spicy, and the crunchy white flesh is spicy and sticky. The dull red seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
The sap causes severe allergic reactions.
