Magenta Sicklebrush

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 81 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several branched, slanted stems covered in thin, knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of small, very narrow and elongated, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are florescent green at the bottom and indigo with pastel yellow dots at the top, sturdy and soft.

In early spring it produces thousands of medium-sized, magenta blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like glue.

In late autumn small circular fruits ripen. The fuzzy gentle red skin is tough and inedible, and the soft white flesh is sour and very dry. The olive seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.
