Bloodvine

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized caudiciform grows up to 46 feet (14.0 meters) tall. The asymmetrical stem is red, and is covered in handfuls of flexible blood red spines. The very thick, light grey trunk can grow to as much as 46 feet (14.0 meters) in diameter. Its yellow-green branches are very long and thin.

The ripped-edged, stiff, pointed leaves are indigo on the edges and white at the center. They are strong, but take little effort to detach.

It is very fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid bright green petals decorated with crimson lines and a black central disk, grow at the top, reappearing once every 5 years. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 13 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like meat.

The caudiciform's skin is extremely thick, the green flesh is waxy, and the dark grey sap is thin and has hallucinogenic properties.

It is frequently struck by lightning.
