Caramel Hazel Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, angular trunk covered in cracked, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is gray.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with large amounts of tiny, slender, pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are solid caramel or peach, with yellow dots.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, grey blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like coffee.

In early summer it produces , 4 pointed fruit. The leathery yellow skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy hazel flesh is sweet and powdery. The olive seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
