Breadblossom Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are short and thin and are covered with small amounts of small, finger-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are bronze on the edges and slate at the center.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, copper blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The fuzzy pink skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft light grey flesh is salty and sticky. The gold seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
