Bloodberry Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 66 feet (20.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, curved trunk covered in hard, waxy, burgundy bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of giant, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are caramel and red.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, blood red blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like faeces.

In mid-autumn it produces small, fan-like fruit. The smooth crimson skin is tough and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy washed-out blue flesh is salty and oily. The brown seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
