Burgundy Spearfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in hard, smooth, burgundy bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The abundance of branches are short and thick and are covered with small bunches of small, spear shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are cyan on the sides and slate at the center.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of medium-sized, aquamarine blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have no scent.

In mid-summer it produces , long, tapering fruit. The waxy purple skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy cyan flesh is savoury and powdery. The green seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

The sap is magenta.
