Thornwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 491 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, angular trunk covered in smooth, dark gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is silver.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with small bunches of rough, large, pleated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid indigo with bright red dots.

In late summer it forms large, vibrant orange, spiky-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
