Salty Needlefruit

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 13 feet (4.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 33 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, cracked, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The tangled mess of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, very thin leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are pink on the sides and dark blue at the center.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, intense orange blossoms with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like faeces.

In mid-summer it produces , needle-like fruit. The fuzzy slate skin is thick and edible when cooked; it is overwhelmingly salty, and the very soft pink flesh is sweet and dry. The red seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
