Vinefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 78 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in fine, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is gray.

The numerous branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with thick bunches of giant, broad, flat leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are orange on the sides and lime at the center.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of large, purple blossoms with wide petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like garlic.

In early winter it produces , long, tapering fruit. The clammy copper skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy orange flesh is bitter and salty and juicy. The red seed is tiny and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
