Emerald Spine Cube

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive caudiciform grows up to 31 feet (9.4 meters) tall. The narrow stem is emerald, and is covered in many fine, yellow, hair-like spines. The straight, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 31 feet (9.4 meters) in diameter at the bottom. Its moss green branches are short stubs and start growing at the base the stem.

The copious amounts of smooth-edged, asymmetrical leaves are generally blue. They are light, but do not detach easily.

It is very slow growing, taking 30 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of dark brown and dark brown, with a pink central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 8 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like paint.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the bright orange flesh is leathery, and the sky blue sap is thin.

It grows well in the sun and full shade.
The sap is edible and very sweet.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
