Slatebell Fruit Tree

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 17 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, crooked trunk covered in knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is brown.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of small, pleated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally slate.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of giant, dark brown blossoms with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a soft scent that smells like pot-purri.

In early winter it produces , cuboid fruit. The waxy caramel skin is peel-able and sour and savoury, and the soft black flesh is salty and dry. The light grey seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
